Hi folks!

Sorry for the late update, but my weekend was pretty crazy. 

The first big thing, is that I'm an aunt now! I spent Sunday and Monday helping out at the hospital while my Sister-In-Law gave birth. I've never experienced bringing a tiny new human into the world before, and it was pretty incredible.

The second big thing is less good news than the first. The Last Diplomat has to go on temporary hiatus while I finish my graphic novel. I gave it a lot of thought, and I'm not happy that I have to do it. But I also like my sanity, so.... :C

My deadline pressure ends at the very beginning of June, so it won't be for too long. I'll try and get some more guest art and other stuff up here when I can to fill the gap, but it still hurts my heart. In the mean time, you can come see me at shows. My calander on the side needs an update, but I'll be at the Douglas County Library Con in April, VanCAF this May, and ALA Chicago in June.

I got a page out this week! Hopefully I'll be back next week with another page. I pushed pretty hard last week to get ahead on my other stuff, so I should have a bit more room in my schedule for a little while.

Ok, my workload has gotten kind of out of hand these days. I'm pretty sure I calculated that if I ink two pages a day, five days a week until my Oni deadline, I won't actually make my Oni deadline. e_e

I'm trying to find some sort of balance that includes not putting The Last Diplomat on hiatus until July. At the very least, I'd like to get through the current flashback sequence. But I am facing down a tsunami of professional obligations, and it looks pretty overwhelming.

For now, the plan is to try and get a page up next week. I think I can find some place to cram it in. I will, of course, keep you all posted. I'm definitely looking forward to my life becoming much less complicated once I finish this graphic novel this summer, but until then, I am grateful for your patience.U_U

I survived ECCC this year, and boy, was it incredible! I saw so many of your lovely faces in person, and that really meant a lot to me. I sold out of every copy of my Last Diplomat chapter books, and copletely wiped out my stock of Chapter 1.

Since I'm completely wiped out from tabling a 4 day show, my friend Elaine Bergström made this adorable little illustration of Samma and Tomat as wee children. A little something to warm everyones hearts before they get broken in a few pages. U_U;

Hello!

So, prep for ECCC got the better of me this year, and I only had time to thumbnail the new page for this week before getting burried in a pile of commissions and con prep.

But since the page has no dialogue anyway, I thought I'd post the thumbnails. I... think they're legible?X3 Usually my rough page layouts never see the light of day, unless you're my editor or my patron, but I think it's fun to see how a page starts out. I've been inking Last Diplomat for so long, that I'll ink over these roughs once I have a moment to finish the page. I know most of the characters well enough that a rough sketch for placement is all I need, and it saves me a lot of time to not have to go back in and clean it up before I go back in and clean it up more!

Anyhow, like I was saying, I'll be at ECCC this week, Thursday through Sunday. I'm at Artist Alley table H-3, in a big block with my other Helioscope studiomates. Artist Alley got moved to a different floor this year, so I won't be on the main exhibition floor this year.

Please come by if you're going to be at the show! I have a bunch of cool stuff on my table, including a printed version of chapters 1-3 of The Last Diplomat. Mention that you're a reader here, and I'll do a free sketch for you! I have a feeling I promised this last year, and then got so excited I forgot, so if I forget, just remind me. I tend to get serious Con Brain at shows, expecially if the show has been going on for a few days already!

Hey all!

So, my problems are twofold. 

One: I am so far behind on my professional project, that I am starting to have a panic attack. Between already being behind due to all the snow we got, and then currently watching my country slide further into the toilet, I'm having a hard time.

Two: I laid out the panel borders for this next page, and as it turns out, it's kind of important, and involves a bit more thought and detail than a regular page. I decided that rather than just push out a half-assed page, I'd try and spend a bit more time and energy on it, even if it meant I posted late.

So in lieu of a page, please have this smartphone wallpaper! I made it a little while ago for my patrons on Patreon. You should just be able to right-click and download it. Hopefully that works! I don't do a lot of wallpapers, so I'm not 100% on how to best distribute them. At the very least, please enjoy the illustration.

Next week I'll be in Chicago for my husband's birthday, fulflling our dream of finally seeing Hamilton. But, I have an incredible guest artist lined up, so there will be something good to look at! Updates should get back to normal the week after next.

Please be well out there, friends. The world is in a dark place, but please don't give up hope, and don't stop fighting for what's important!

Sorry if last week's update was a little messed up. I found myself needing an immediate emergency update, with only my phone and a small sketchbook to do it with. I will tell you right now, this post-creation software does not support phone use very well.X3
